Introduction

S.T.A.R. San Diego is the largest science fiction and fantasy fan club in the San Diego area.

History

The club was founded in October 1972.  Its full name at the time, the Star Trek Association for Revival, reflected its initial mission; to bring back Star Trek and other quality science fiction programming. Thanks to the support of people like you, the mission succeded.

Since then it has grown and become a general interest science fiction social club with interests in fantasy, gaming, costuming, computers, comic books, animation, dancing, writing, films, and much more.

Membership

S.T.A.R. is open to anyone. By simply attending a meeting you are considered a member, but to become an "official, card caring, voting member" there is a one time, one dollar fee. (But you must also be fourteen, or older, to vote.) There are about 75 active members in the club.

Steering Committee

S.T.A.R. San Diego is currently in a state of reorganization.  We are focusing now on adopting a more social, less formal organization. To help guide these efforts,  a Steering Committee has been created.  Its meetings are held once a month after the general meeting and are open to all members. At these meetings general decision making takes place on how the club will be run.

The S.T.A.R. Steering Committee consists of three elected officers, who are voted in by the S.T.A.R. members at the yearly election in October, as well as one appointed post.
